This call for proposals is organized by Enabel, the Belgian international cooperation agency, for the DeSIRA+ initiative in Central Africa.
It is based on three axes:
- Agroecology as a holistic approach to agricultural and food challenges.
- Innovation and scaling through co-creation between researchers and field actors.
- Strengthened multi-stakeholder partnerships, supported by non-research organizations (CSOs, POs, public and private institutions, NGOs) to promote the dissemination of innovations.
Objective
- The overall objective of this call for proposals is to contribute to the transition towards sustainable and resilient agricultural systems through the widespread adoption of agroecological practices adapted to local contexts.
- The specific objective is: Producers have validated agroecological solutions, accompanied by technical, economic and institutional systems, as well as the skills necessary to enable their adoption and widespread dissemination
Funding Information
- The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is EUR 700,000
- Any request for a grant under this call for proposals must be between the following minimum and maximum amounts:
- Minimum amount: EUR 150,000 (own co-financing not included)
- Maximum amount: EUR 230,000 (own co-financing not included)
Expected Results
- The expected results are as follows:
- R1 – Innovative agroecological solutions, including cultivation systems and practices, soil management and biodiversity management, are identified, tested and adapted to local conditions and producers’ needs.
- R2 – The identified agroecological practices and systems are subject to a rigorous assessment of agroeconomic, environmental and social performance, including their capacity for resilience in the face of climate change, in order to determine the potential for future scaling up.
- R3 – Field mechanisms for technical, financial and/or organizational support in favor of the agroecological transition and adapted to local contexts, are available for the benefit of producers.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant
- To be eligible for subsidies, the applicant must meet the following conditions:
- be a legal person; and
- be a public actor (universities, research centers, etc.) or
- be a private non-profit actor (international non-governmental organization or national, non-profit organization, foundation, etc.) or
- be a legal entity under private law whose maximization of profit is not the primary objective; and
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicants and not act as an intermediary.
- To be eligible for subsidies, the applicant must meet the following conditions:
- Co-applicant(s)
- Co-applicants, where applicable, participate in the definition and implementation of the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the applicant.
- Co-applicants must meet the following conditions:
- be a legal person; and
- be a public actor (universities, research centers, etc.) or
- be a private non-profit actor (international non-governmental organization or national, non-profit organization, foundation, etc.) or
- be a legal entity under private law whose profit maximization does not constitute the priority objective; and
- Have experience in implementing field actions related to agroecology in the target countries or in comparable intervention contexts (i.e. family farming, security risks, high population density, land conflicts, food insecurity, dysfunction of public producer support services) within the framework of a multi-stakeholder approach.
- Co-applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Co-applicants, where applicable, participate in the definition and implementation of the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the applicant.
