Enabel has launched the call for proposals for Mobilization for the Reintegration of Adolescent Mothers into the Post-Basic Cycle: Identification, Support and Catch-up.
Objectives
- The general objective of this call for proposals is to: Facilitate the reintegration of adolescent mothers into post-basic education through their identification, personalized support and the implementation of appropriate catch-up programs.
- The specific objectives of this call for proposals are:
- Vulnerable teenage mothers benefit from psychosocial and educational support with a view of their reintegration into post-basic education.
- The school and community environment are made more favourable to the school reintegration of vulnerable teenage mothers.
Funding Information
- The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is EUR 300,000.
- Minimum amount: EUR 225,000 and maximum amount: EUR 300,000
Expected Results
- The expected results are:
- Result 1: A system for referencing and mobilizing adolescent mothers in the community is operational in the project area.
- The project sets up a functional system for referencing, identifying specific needs and mobilizing communities towards adolescent mothers who are at risk of dropping out of school, particularly those exposed to specific vulnerabilities (GBV, social isolation, stigmatization).
- Teenage mothers are informed about available resources, their rights and the educational opportunities available to them.
- Their parents and the communities to which they belong are also made aware of the available resources, their rights and the educational opportunities available to them, as well as the importance for their future of their reintegration into post-basic education.
- Result 2: Identified adolescent mothers’ benefit from appropriate psychosocial and educational support
- Educational staff better understand the specific issues faced by teenage mothers and create an inclusive and caring learning environment.
- The specific educational, psychological and social needs of each teenage mother are identified to offer them tailored support.
- Social support for managing the practical aspects of the daily lives of teenage mothers is carried out (childcare, mother and child medical monitoring, etc.).
- Psychological support is provided to help teenage girls overcome the emotional challenges of motherhood and returning to school.
- Peer support groups are established to promote the exchange of experiences and sharing of advice among teenage mothers.
- Result 3: School catch-up systems are implemented in the targeted educational structures.
- Adapted remedial education programs are developed based on skills already acquired and individual needs.
- A system for monitoring and evaluating the progress of adolescent mothers (particularly with their parents by teachers, etc.) is set up in their educational journey, in order to adjust the programs according to their evolving needs.
- Result 4: Concrete commitments are made by educational authorities by making school regulations flexible and favorable to support and facilitate the reintegration of adolescent mothers
- Meetings or meetings with high authorities, institutions and other partners identified as allies on the issue are organized.
- Well-targeted activities aimed at religious leaders, opinion or community leaders, etc. are organized to secure their advocacy support for changing school regulations.
- Local initiatives are supported to facilitate the reintegration of young mothers by providing a local advocacy strategy.
- A media awareness campaign is being conducted to inform the population and mobilize public opinion on the importance of reintegrating young mothers into school.

Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for subsidies, the applicant must meet the following conditions:
- Be a legal entity; and
- Be a private non-profit actor or a foundation; or be a legal entity under private law whose profit maximization is not the primary objective
- Be a specific type of organization such as: non-governmental organization, organization international, civil society organization, etc.
- Be established or represented in Burundi;
- Be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and not act as an intermediary and;
- Have at least two years of experience in the field of reintegration of young people who have dropped out of school and;
- Have at least 2 years of experience in leading/carrying out similar activities in this field and provide proof of completion.
