International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has launched the Creating Employment Opportunities for Rural Youth in Africa to Support integrated agricultural entrepreneurship hubs.
The implementing institution may be an intergovernmental and governmental organization, TVET and business development institution, a civil society organization (including NGOs), an academic/research institution, or a private sector entity.
Funding Information
- This grant program will provide a Fixed funding limit (USD 1.2 million) and a mandatory cash contribution of 8% of the total cost of the proposal and an in-kind contribution by the applicant independently. or as consortia.
Eligibility Criteria
- This grant program will be implemented in nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa. However, as part of a phased approach, this current call for proposals focuses on Algeria.
- The selected organization or consortium must have:
- Ability to provide shared facilities and equipment alongside business and technical/vocational skills development, soft skills, market access, technology transfer, and linkages to services (such as financial services and employment services) which are supported by mentoring (apprenticeships and internships, business incubation, and acceleration) and networking;
- Be prepared to facilitate a holistic and proactive process focused on early agribusiness growth development and training in key technical/business skills along value chains, leading to business start-up/or entry into agricultural and related labor markets;
- Willingness to interact and engage constructively with broader agribusiness communities;
- Flexibility in the development of mentoring modules and above all, post-mentoring support services, for example, the establishment of support services for young people mentored as well as incentive, prize and recognition systems; be inclusive and able to create relevant strategic partnerships to create service/market agreements and/or funding linkages for young entrepreneurs with relevant stakeholders (e.g. private sector and government).
- Ability and capacity to facilitate/foster linkages and collaborations between the training and education system and agribusiness (employers), e.g. by setting up support services to address skills mismatch in the sector as well as creating incentives for the private sector to participate in skills development and facilitate the smooth transition of young people into the labor market.
- Effective business continuity plans to implement the project in light of the COVID-19 pandemic
- Financial management of the grant, including the ability to receive, record, track and report on multiple sources of grant funding in accordance with IFAD requirements.
