Creative New Zealand is seeking applications for its “Wild Creations Programme” for up to three artists to experience one of several Department of Conservation (DOC) environments as inspiration of an art work or works, between November 2017 and June 2018.
Funding Information
- An artist’s stipend of $1,000 per week while the artist is undertaking their DOC experience
- Up to $2,000 (excluding GST) per artist towards project material costs and the artist’s travel to and from their home to the relevant DOC office
- A maximum of $36,000 will be split between up to three artists
Benefits
At a minimum DOC will provide each artist with:
- transport between the relevant DOC office and the project site
- information about the facilities and features of the experience location
- the name and contact details for the member of local DOC staff who will be appointed to liaise with the artist
- site-based support for the artists from regional DOC staff
Expected Outcomes
- The stories of 50 Historic Icon sites are told and protected.
- International holiday visitors come to New Zealand to connect with our natural place.
- New Zealanders’ lives are enriched through connection to our nature.
- New Zealand’s natural ecosystems benefit from pest management; Threatened species across New Zealand’s ecosystems are managed to enhance their populations; Freshwater ecosystems are restored from ‘mountains to the sea’; and a nationwide network of marine protected areas is in place, representing New Zealand’s marine ecosystems.
- In addition, Wild Creations proposals are expected to deliver to one, or more, of the Creative New Zealand outcomes:
- Greater public engagement with the arts as shown by New Zealanders participating in the arts and/or New Zealanders experiencing high-quality arts.
- Stronger arts communities, artists and organisations as shown by the development of high-quality New Zealand art.
Eligibility Criteria
- To apply for Wild Creations applicants:
- must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- cannot be a Creative New Zealand staff member or a member of the Arts Council
- cannot be an employee of the Department of Conservation (DOC)
- must have a track record of arts experience and success. This means applicants must have:
- recognition from peers or experts
- specialised training or practical experience and
- successfully completed an arts project, outside of a course of study
- Cannot fund, if applicants:
- are more than 16 weeks overdue with a Creative New Zealand report for a previous grant or investment
- are in breach of the conditions of a current Creative New Zealand funding agreement
- were in ‘default’ of a Creative New Zealand funding agreement and sent in a late report in the six months prior to the closing date for Wild Creations proposals
