The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is seeking proposals from eligible organisations for its Cerrado Biodiversity Hotspot Small and Large Grants with a goal to ensure civil society is engaged in biodiversity conservation.
Priorities
- Promote the adoption of best practices in agriculture in the priority corridors.
- Support the creation/ expansion and effective management of protected areas in the priority corridors.
- Promote and strengthen supply chains associated with the sustainable use of natural resources and ecological restoration in the hotspot.
- Support the protection of threatened species in the hotspot.
- Support the implementation of tools to integrate and to share data on monitoring to better inform decision-making processes in the hotspot.
- Strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations to promote better management of territories and of natural resources and to support other investment priorities in the hotspot.
Grant Information
CEPF supports biodiversity conservation through two types of grants:
- Small grants of US$20,000 or less
- Large grants of over US$20,000
Eligibility Criteria
- This call covers the Brazilian share of the Cerrado biodiversity hotspot; therefore, projects must be located within the hotspot boundaries in Brazil.
- IEB – the CEPF Regional Implementation Team (RIT) for the Cerrado biodiversity hotspot – and CEPF are pleased to invite letters of inquiry from eligible applicants from community groups and associations, non-governmental organizations, private enterprises, universities, research institutes and other civil society organizations for biodiversity conservation projects in the Cerrado biodiversity hotspot. Government-owned enterprises or institutions are eligible only if they can demonstrate that the enterprise or institution:
- Has a legal personality independent of any government agency or actor;
- Has the authority to apply for and receive private funds; and
- May not assert a claim of sovereign immunity.
- This call is open to both local and international civil society organizations. Please note, however, that IEB and CEPF particularly welcome applications from local and grassroots organizations (e.g., indigenous and traditional peoples, youth– and women-based organizations, and non-profit organizations). Individuals should work with civil society organizations to develop applications, rather than apply directly.
- An organization must have its own bank account and be authorized under relevant national laws to receive charitable contributions.
