Cultural Vistas and the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs are currently accepting applications for its 2019 Public Participation Program in Environmental Protection (PPPA) program.
The PPPA is a grant program funded by the U.S. Department of State that funds 4 projects in Chile, Colombia, and Peru. The PPPA project will increase civil society engagement in environmental protection, and promote public participation in environmental decision-making. The intended result of this will be increased environmental protection and greater enforcement of environmental laws in FTA (Free Trade Agreement) and TPA (Trade Partnership Agreement) countries.
Each project should focus on the amentáceo of the public conscience and the understanding of the environmental chapters of FTA, environmental laws, opportunities for public participation in environmental issues in each country.
Funding Information
- This funded program offers four projects across South America the opportunity to increase the impact and reach of environmental decision making.
- Selected projects may receive up to $50,000 USD in funding over a 15-month funding cycle.
- Round-trip international or domestic airfare to kickoff workshop in Bogota, Colombia
Criteria
- All applicants must be citizens of the following countries: Chile, Colombia or Peru.
- Descriptions of roles:
- The project leader: This person is the general manager of the implementation of the project, and will delineate the responsibilities of the other participants. The project leader leads the discussion on how the project will be implemented, and must commit to communicating with the rest of the team and the funder.
- Project Secretary: This person compiles monthly reports and project updates. The project secretary must be highly organized and have experience with social networks . no updated information on the status of a project is provided, the fund could be lost.
- Treasurer of the project: This person will be responsible for the finances of the program. The funds will be distributed in three separate intervals at percentages of 2 5% (first phase), 50% (second phase) and 25% (third phase). This person must be reliable, organized and have a bank account to receive the funds. Also, this person should keep all receipts and itemize expenses paid with small funds.
- Each member of the management team (leader, secretary and treasurer) will attend a workshop on the management of the project in Bogotá, Colombia in mid-March to start the project. All projects should be implemented after that workshop , and the performance deadline will be April 2019 to July 2020.
