The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is currently seeking applications for its “Avenir Award Program for Research on Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS (DP2)” to support creative individuals who wish to pursue innovative research at the nexus of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS.
The Avenir Award Program for Research on Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS will support research approaches, both basic and clinical, which have the potential to benefit substance using populations with or at risk for HIV/AIDS by reducing HIV incidence, improving therapies for HIV, reducing the impact of comorbid conditions, and ultimately, eradicating HIV.
Funding Information
- Awards will be up to $1,500,000 in direct costs (the equivalent of $300,000 in Direct Costs each year for five years) plus applicable Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs to be determined at the time of award.
- The maximum project period is 4 years 6 months.

- Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education

- City or township governments
- Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
- State governments
- Other Eligible Applicants include the following:
- Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs); Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government; Faith-based or Community-based Organizations; Hispanic-serving Institutions; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized); Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations); Regional Organizations; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs) ; U.S. Territory or Possession; Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are not eligible to apply. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply. Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed.
