DHHS/NIH: Behavioral and Integrative Treatment Development Program

The U.S Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for its grant program entitled” Behavioral and Integrative Treatment Development Program”.

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage research grant applications on the development and testing of behavioral and integrative treatments for drug and alcohol abuse and dependence.

Projects of interest fall within the research domain of behavioral or integrated (e.g., behavioral and pharmacological) interventions targeting:

  • substance abuse;
  • prevention of acquisition or transmission of HIV infection among individuals in substance abuse treatment;
  • promotion of adherence to substance abuse treatment, HIV and addiction medications;
  • chronic pain.

Funding Information

Application budgets are limited to $225,000 direct costs and must reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.

  • Special district governments
  • Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • County governments
  • State governments
  • Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • Small businesses
  • City or township governments
  • Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
  • Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
  • Independent school districts
  • Others (see text field entitled “Additional Information on Eligibility” for clarification)
  • For profit organizations other than small businesses
  • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
