The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for Promoting NICHD Areas of Research for HIV/AIDS in Maternal and Child Health to stimulate HIV/AIDS research by addressing scientific areas of primary interest to NICHD, Maternal and Pediatric Infectious Disease Branch (MPIDB) and the Office of AIDS Research (OAR).
Objectives
Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to applications that will generate information needed:
- To study the impact of ARV therapy on adverse pregnancy outcomes in HIV infected pregnant women.
- To encourage studies on the development of the fetal immune system in the setting of HIV/AIDS.
- To encourage new strategies for the development of a pediatric HIV vaccine.
- To develop new technologies to define and interrogate the HIV viral reservoir in infants, children, and adolescents.
- To develop simple technologies to identify hotspots of HIV and to identify and prevent new infections among target populations worldwide.
- To investigate feasible, acceptable, safe and scalable strategies to increase uptake of and adherence to HIV prevention modalities in adolescents and young adults.
- To support strategies that assesses the effectiveness of HIV preventive modalities in adolescents and young adults.
- To develop strategies that address HIV testing initiation and adherence to ARVs, retention and continuation in care so that youth achieve viral suppression.
- To encourage studies on the interaction between HIV with neurodevelopment of infants and children, including appropriate assessment tools.

- Other Eligible Applicants include the following: Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISISs); Eligible Agencies of the Federal Government; Faith-based or Community-based Organizations; Hispanic-serving Institutions; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); Indian/Native American Tribal Governments (Other than Federally Recognized); Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Organizations); Regional Organizations; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities (TCCUs) ; U.S. Territory or Possession.
