Embassy of Canada to Kosovo based in Croatia: 2018-2019 Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI)

The Embassy of Canada to Kosovo based in Zagreb, Croatia has announced a call for proposals 2018-2019 for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is an important component of the Canadian Government’s development assistance envelope .Reflecting the priorities of the Government of Canada and taking in to account the socio economic and political context of Kosovo, the CFLI focuses on working with civil society, particularly grassroots organizations, to support democratic governance and to promote human rights. Preference will be given to projects promoting the participation of women and indigenous and vulnerable minority groups and to projects that have a strong advocacy component.

Thematic Priorities

All projects must align with at least one of the following CFLI thematic priorities:

  • Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
  • Inclusive governance, including diversity, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
  • Peace and security, with a focus on conflict prevention and building peace.
  • Human dignity, covering health, education and nutrition.
  • Growth that works for everyone, including women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, investing in the poorest and most vulnerable, and safeguarding economic gains.
  • Environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management.

Funding Information

  • The maximum funding amount per project is CAD $20,000 (in recent years the average value of projects has been CAD $15,000).
  • One year projects must end by February 28, 2019, and all final reports must be submitted no later than March 15, 2019 (23:59, CET).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Within the context of eligible countries, eligible recipients include:
    • local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations,
    • local academic institutions working on local projects,
    • international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities,
    • municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects, and
    • Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations that are working on local development activities.
  • However, priority will be given to local civil society organizations (including non-governmental organizations). Other entities, such as international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional organizations may be eligible for funding, provided they are working with local partners and on local projects that are consistent with the objectives of the CFLI. Similarly, municipal, regional or national government institutions may receive funding, provided that their projects are essentially local in nature.
  • The Embassy encourages new organisations to apply.
