The New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb) has launched the Equinox program support Indigenous artists, curators and groups to engage in artistic creation and professional development.
The Equinox program provides flexible, short-term support to individual Indigenous artists or collectives applying on behalf of small or large groups, arts groups, organizations, community groups, independent arts administrators, and artistic and cultural mediators. Grant funds may be used for organizational development and professional development that will have a positive impact on building the arts ecosystem in Indigenous communities.
Types of Grants
- There are three types of Equinox grants:
- Research and Development Provides applicants with the opportunity to research and develop their practice by attending workshops, mentorships and residencies. Funds can cover the costs of participation fees and/or travel.
- Creation of New Work Provides applicants with funding for the creation of new work, and places value on projects with culturally specific dialogues.
- Connections Provides funds that bring artists together conferences, workshops, gatherings, exchanges and other activities that foster artistic relationships, connections and partnerships that strengthen the Indigenous arts community.

Eligibility Criteria
- Indigenous artists, curators, collectives and groups are eligible to apply. This program is open to emerging, mid-career and senior artists working in all disciplines. Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to the creation, public presentation, dialogue and appreciation of Indigenous arts practices.
- Eligible artists must also:
- Meet the professional artist criteria;
- Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents;
- Have resided in New Brunswick for at least one year (12 months) prior to the application deadline;
- Have completed any projects previously funded under the Equinox program; and
- Not have an overdue Final Report for any project funded by artsnb.
- Full-time students, Indigenous Bands or groups directly linked to a Band are not eligible. Applicants are ineligible to apply to other artsnb programs with the same project with which they are applying to this program.
- An artist may receive only one Equinox Program grant per fiscal year (April 1 – March 31).
