The European Union (EU) is currently accepting proposals from eligible organisations for “European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) Jordan 2016-2017” in order to strengthen the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform, in supporting the peaceful conciliation of group interest and consolidating political participation and representation.
Priorities
- The right to fair trial and rule of law: To advance the right to fair trial and rule of law in Jordan. Notably, to ensure that human rights are respected regarding:
- Death Penalty
- Monitoring Special Courts
- Use of administrative detention/1954 Crime Prevention Law
- Torture/ill treatment
- Extra-judicial customary law
- Freedom of Expression and Media Freedom: To enhance freedom of opinion and expression in line with the Comprehensive National Plan for Human Rights 2016-2025, notably, to promote a freer and more professional media as an essential step towards greater democratisation:
- Enhancing the quality and the coverage of Human Rights issues in the media
- Monitoring implementation of existing laws
- Supporting legislative improvements and dialogue with government counterparts
- Raising journalistic standards
Size of Grants
Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between the following minimum and maximum amounts:
- LOT 1:
- minimum amount: EUR 250,000.00
- maximum amount: EUR 250,000.00
- LOT 2:
- minimum amount: EUR 780,000.00
- maximum amount: EUR 780,000.00
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be non-profit-making
- be a non-governmental organisation
- be established in a Member State of the European Union or in Jordan.
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary.
- Potential applicants may not participate in calls for proposals or be awarded grants if they are in any of the situations
- The lead applicant must declare that the lead applicant himself, the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies) are not in any of these situations.
- The lead applicant may act individually or with co-applicant(s).
- The lead applicant will become the beneficiary identified as the Coordinator. The Coordinator is the main interlocutor of the Contracting Authority. It represents and acts on behalf of any other co-beneficiary (if any) and coordinate the design and implementation of the action.
How to Apply
- The application procedure consists of two phases:
- Concept notes
- Full applications
- In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
