The Active Citizenship Fund fAKT has announced the first call for grants to non-governmental organizations within the project “For a stronger voice of civil society organizations”, which fAKT realizes with the support of the US Embassy in Podgorica.
Aims
The aim of the project is to strengthen the influence of civil society and contribute to positive social and democratic changes, and therefore the focus will be on projects that:
- contribute to the recognition and credibility of civil society organizations;
- encourage active civic participation;
- contribute to the promotion of democratic processes and human rights.
Focus Areas
The focus of the program is the following areas:
- Empowerment and social inclusion of young people
- Economic and political empowerment of women
- Empowering undeveloped and marginalized communities
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Environmental protection and sustainable development
- Prevention of violent extremism
Funding Information
The maximum amount of individual grant under this program is $ 20,000, and at least 5 projects will be supported: the total fund for this program is $ 100,000.
Eligibility Criteria
Non-governmental organizations registered in Montenegro (in accordance with the Law on NGOs) can be applied for the allocation of funds, which are recognized by their actions and achieved results in one of the mentioned fields, that is, organizations that have relevant experience and expertise.
Categories of Applicants and Number of Applications
- The organization can only submit one project proposal (one application).
- The organization can also be a partner in the project of another NGO that applies for the allocation of funds.
- The organization can be a partner in up to two applications / two projects within this call, provided not to submit its application.
Note: The proposed projects can last up to 9 (nine) months.
Supported organizations will be required to contact the FAKT office for visibility instructions financing.
Expectations and Recommendations
- Organizations are expected to run projects related to the scope of activities, goals and mission of the organization, in order to further contribute to the recognisability and credibility of civil society.
- Organizations are encouraged to devise innovative activities and alternative solutions in the area they deal with (without reducing the project to events such as round tables and conferences).
In order to achieve lasting changes, it is necessary to strengthen partnership relations: cooperation between civil society organizations, as well as cross-sectoral cooperation. Therefore, they will be more likely to be financed by:
- projects that are implemented in cooperation between two or more organizations
- projects that provide contribution to goods, services (in-kind) and / or money, although the support of others is not a prerequisite for granting a grant.

In order to present the competition, two informative sessions will be organized :
- In Bijelo Polje: 24th September at 11:30, at the Hotel Franca
- In Podgorica: September 27th at 11am, in the American Corner (KIC Budo Tomović )
