FIŽ – The Endowment Fund for Investigative Journalism at the Open Society Foundation announces a grant call , the aim of which is to support and disseminate free, pluralist and socially important information that respects and defends the principles of liberal democracy.
Priority will be given to projects focusing on the following areas:
- Corruption, illicit enrichment and financial crime
- Security, democracy and human rights
- Environment and climate change
When deciding on a foreign policy topic, it is also decisive to prove the connection and impact on life in Slovakia.
The selection committee may also decide to support the project from other areas at its own discretion and the quality of the submitted plan.
Funding Information
- Total amount to be redistributed: € 40,000
- Maximum aid amount: € 8,000
- Project duration: maximum 6 months in the period from 1 August 2020 to 31 January 2021
- Announcement of the grant call: 3. 5. 2020
- Announcement of grant results: 31 July 2020
Eligibility Criteria
The following applicants are considered as eligible grant applicants:
- Legal entities employing individuals and / or teams operating in the field of print and electronic media
- Non-governmental organizations employing or collaborating with individuals and / or teams that demonstrate the ability to publicly publish the results of their investigative work
- Individuals and / or freelance teams with already demonstrable public publication and / or societal impact of their previous activities and demonstrate the ability to publicly publish the results of their investigative work
Assessment Criteria
- Each grant application will be assessed by a five-member Selection Committee, which decides on the support of projects submitted to this grant call.
- Independence of the selection board:
- The selection committee will consist of individuals who have a thorough understanding of current journalistic needs. All members of the Selection Committee will be required to commit themselves to the highest ethical and professional standards. The members of the Selection Committee will act independently of all donors and partners of FIŽ, as well as of any other effort to influence their decisions. Any attempt by the donor or partner organization of FIŽ to interfere in the decisions of the Selection Committee will be immediately notified to the Council of FIŽ.
- The members of the Selection Board will be required to declare any possible conflict of interest and to inform without delay of any fact which could cause or undermine such independence and a public perception of independence.
- The members of the Selection Committee may invite the applicant to supplement the grant application, approve the application without reservations or reject the application. The evaluation and selection of supported projects will be submitted by the Selection Committee to the FIŽ Council, which will take note of the result. The FIŽ Board may supplement the result with its own opinion and recommendation for the NOS-OSF Board of Directors, which is the final instance for the approval of the grant award decision.
