Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance has launched its Funding for Civil Society Organisations to strengthen and diversifying efforts to extend vaccination coverage to “zero dose” children and neglected communities in eligible countries is Gavi’s primary mission.
This call for projects is aimed at civil society organizations (CSOs) officially established in Burundi.
In addition, CSOs will integrate into existing systems at all levels, prioritizing close collaboration with districts.
Objectives
- The subsidized activities must cover two high-level objectives:
- Generating demand and mobilizing communities
- Awareness-raising activities on the benefits of vaccination for community members, particularly groups hostile to vaccines
- Contribute to advanced and mobile strategies
- Organize awareness-raising sessions on the importance of vaccination, aimed at educational supervisors (inspectors, educational advisors, teachers, religious leaders, customary practitioners)
- Strengthen partnerships with local and community stakeholders to generate awareness increased demand for vaccination.
- Health information systems, monitoring and evaluation
- Oversee the use of community registers to identify children aged 0-2 years, in collaboration with civil society organizations, CHWs and the community health program.
- Support the planning and monitoring of community vaccination activities in all districts and health centres.
- Strengthen active search for cases of MEV, zero-dose children and under-vaccinated children in collaboration with CHWs and health centers.
- Strengthen partnerships with local and community stakeholders to stimulate demand for vaccination
- Generating demand and mobilizing communities
Duration
- The expected duration of the application process, then pre-contractual development until signing the contract, is approximately three months. The subsidized projects could therefore start around March 2025 and must be completed by June 2026 at the latest.
Eligibility Criteria
- The eligibility criteria for this funding are as follows:
- National non-governmental and non-profit organization in Burundi
- Officially registered in Burundi
- For CSOs having already worked with the PEV, having had good collaboration
- Having an active community structure
- Have worked or are working in the target provinces of the project
- Have a management body free from any control by a foreign entity or by individuals who are not citizens or permanent residents of Burundi
- Civil Society Organizations can be:
- Community-based organizations
- Faith-based organizations
- Local non-profit organizations
- Civil society networks
