The Western Australian Government is seeking Expressions of Interest for Disaster Ready Fund 2023.
The Disaster Ready Fund (DRF) is a new Commonwealth program that will make up to $200 million available nation-wide each year from 2023. Funding will be provided to assist communities to prevent disasters and improve resilience by investing in infrastructure and risk reduction activities.
Objectives
- The objectives of the DRF are to:
- Increase understanding of natural hazards, disaster risks and disaster impacts to improve disaster response and mitigate future hazard impacts.
- Reduce community exposure to natural hazards and the creation of new risks.
- Reduce the risks and harm associated with natural hazards, including reducing the recovery burden for governments and affected communities.
Funding Information
- The DRF will provide up to $200 million annually to build disaster resilience and mitigation projects across Australia.
- There will be no limit on the amount of funding projects can apply for, but applicants must contribute 50 percent of the total project cost in cash or in-kind.
Eligible Projects
- The DRF will fund the following types of projects:
- Infrastructure:
- Investment in grey (built), green-blue (natural) or monitoring infrastructure
- Business case development for future infrastructure.
- Systemic risk reduction:
- Supporting understanding of risk through better evidence base
- Strengthening decision making by enhancing governance networks and communities of practice
- Adaptation projects that improve land use planning
- Supporting, enabling and incentivising private investment.
Eligible expenditure under the DRF includes:
- Construction and/or procurement of materials, including supply costs, to deliver the project.
- Staff (including contractor and consultancy) salaries and on-costs, so long as they can be directly attributed to the provision of the project.
- Writing, reporting, consultation and engagement costs insofar as they are directly relevant to the delivery of the project.
- Upgrading of existing materials and assets so long as the upgrades meet the intent of the DRF objectives.
- Community engagement and communications initiatives relating to the delivery of the project.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) will be responsible for submitting applications for the DRF on behalf of Western Australia. Any government or non-government organisation can apply for funding if the proposed project delivers benefit to the community.
