Deadline: 30-Jun-25
Internews has launched an exciting new competition inviting international teams to submit proposals for innovative content production. The competition is part of the CARAVAN project and aims to support the most creative, impactful, and original ideas that contribute to the media landscape across Central Asia.
Selected projects will receive financial support to bring their ideas to life. Applicants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan can receive grants of up to €10,000. In Uzbekistan, individual participants will receive fellowship support of up to €10,000 to implement their proposed projects. The implementation period is up to 11 months for most countries, and up to 8 months for projects based in Uzbekistan.
This initiative focuses on enhancing access to high-quality, socially significant information in Central Asia. Content created under this program should help people analyze the information they consume, make informed decisions, and improve their quality of life. Projects are expected to raise awareness of how current events affect the region, counter misinformation and hate speech, and promote regional dialogue and integration.
Eligible topics include regional economic integration, environmental challenges, climate change, water resource management, and the impact of geopolitical events. The program also encourages content that strengthens peace, tolerance, civic engagement, and discussions around shared values in the region.
The competition is open to a wide range of participants including local independent media outlets, production studios, NGOs, creative collectives, bloggers, freelancers, and journalists. However, applicants must be legally registered entities according to local laws, except in Uzbekistan, where funding is provided as fellowships.
A key requirement is cross-border collaboration. All applications must come from teams representing at least two Central Asian countries. These can include editorial offices, media organizations, or individual content creators working together. The aim is to foster regional cooperation and produce content that reflects diverse perspectives across borders.
To be considered, teams must have at least one year of experience in content production and possess the technical capacity to execute their projects. The proposed content must align with the competition’s themes, be engaging for a broad audience, and be published through existing media platforms or social media channels.
All applicants must be willing to participate actively in the CARAVAN project’s training activities and uphold professional standards of ethical journalism. The selection will favor originality, creativity, and relevance, along with a strong commitment to quality and social impact.
This is a unique opportunity for content creators across Central Asia to collaborate, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to regional dialogue and development through powerful storytelling.
