The Government of South Australia has announced a grant program to support the concept development and commissioning of small-scale public art projects by professional practicing South Australian artists.
Funding Information
- Grants of Up to $15,000 available.
Types of Project Activity
- Projects in the public realm may be functional or non-functional, permanent or temporary. They may be undertaken through a collaborative approach between artists and other design professionals or may be realised with the involvement of community members, either through consultation or participation.
- In this category, organisations can apply for two types of project activity:
- Concept development by artists
- Commissioning of new public art works for presentation in high-profile and accessible locations in South Australia.
You can apply for
- Artist, mentor or mentee fees
- Artist commissioning fees
- Concept proposal fees for selected artists/artist teams
- Travel
- Costs directly arising from the involvement of the artist/s, creatives and professionals in the development, fabrication, installation and realisation of the public art commission
Eligibility Criteria
- Local government
- State Government Departments and Agencies and Statutory Authorities
- Funded organisations: small-to-medium organisations, major organisations
- organisations funded through the National Performing Arts Partnership Framework (NPAPF) formerly known as Major Performing Arts (MPA) Companies
- community groups
- Please note: the private sector is eligible for financial assistance only when in partnership with an eligible applicant, but not directly. The private sector may obtain advice on the commissioning of public art works.
- Individuals and groups
- Applicants must:
- Be professional practicing artists or arts workers / cultural workers
- Be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status
- Live in South Australia six months or more per year.
- In some cases, employees of South Australian Government funded arts and cultural organisations may be able to apply. Refer to individual grant categories for category-specific eligibility.
- Please note: Artists and arts workers employed by funded arts and cultural organisations (at least 0.6 FTE) require a financial contribution of a minimum of 30% of total activity cost to be made by the organisation if the eligible activity relates to their employment.
- Individuals and unincorporated South Australian groups may have their grant auspiced by a recognised incorporated body.
- Organisations
- Generally, applications are accepted from not-for-profit South Australian arts and cultural organisations, including those funded through Arts South Australia, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, the Department for Innovation and Skills and the Department for Education. Local Government and state government agencies and for-profit arts and cultural organisations are eligible applicants in some grant categories.

- Individuals and unincorporated South Australian groups may have their grant auspiced by a recognised incorporated body.
- Individuals, groups and organisations
- Your application will be ineligible if:
- You have an outstanding acquittal for a previous grant
- Your organisation is insolvent or under administration
- Funded activity starts or has been completed before the funded activity commencement date
- Projects or activities do not have a clear arts or cultural component.
Ineligible
- This category does not fund:
- Projects without a public art outcome or presentation
- Public Art and Design Major Commissions (refer Major Projects: Public Art and Design Major Commission)
