Astellas is offering grants to support charitable organizations with a goal of increasing access to equitable healthcare solutions for underserved communities and populations.
Astellas is committed to improving healthcare and making a difference in the lives of patients, their care partners, and local communities. They work with charitable partners to improve access to healthcare solutions, and seek to eliminate health inequities and build healthy communities.
Programmatic Focus Areas
- Charitable donations are made towards projects which are consistent with Astellas’ strategic corporate, business, therapeutic and scientific platform, with priority given to applications which fall under one or both of the programmatic focus areas below.
- Healthcare and Poverty: Poverty is a major cause of ill health, and a barrier to accessing health care when needed. Ill health, in turn, is a major cause of poverty. Astellas will support organizations which work on making healthcare solutions more accessible and affordable for low-income households; and projects which increase knowledge about available healthcare, appropriate health-promoting practices, and understanding how to make available service work for low-income population.
- Health Education: Health education allows people to make informed decisions about their own health, and develops skills, values and attitudes to lead healthy and fulfilled lives. Astellas will fund activities which increase health knowledge, and strengthens attitudes, beliefs, and practice skills needed to adopt and maintain healthy behaviors. They aim at improving health literacy, skills, and attitudes of individuals and communities in various settings. Projects can focus on recruitment, development, training and retention of health workforce, as well as educational activities to maintain health, reduce ill health, death and injuries.
Funding Information
- Selected applicants may receive between $25,000–$65,000 to fund projects over a one-year period that will begin after 1 October 2023.
- Moreover, Astellas cannot be the main funder of the proposed project (requested funding must be less than 50% of the overall project budget for any 12-month period).
Eligibility Criteria
- Astellas offers Charitable Donations to tax-exempt U.S. charitable organizations as described in section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code (IRS) or otherwise IRS tax-exempt charitable organizations. Astellas does not provide charitable donations to organizations that operate patient assistance programs or provide financial assistance to patients. Preference will be given to projects that are national in scope or located where Astellas has a strong presence (e.g., Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Washington, DC; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; and Sanford, NC).
- Donations are made for a charitable purpose and without any commercial motive or appearance of such; and without an intent to influence, induce, or reward the purchase, use, recommending, or arranging for the use of any product developed, marketed, and/or manufactured by Astellas or its affiliates, or the formulary status of any Astellas products.
Ineligible
- Astellas does not provide funding for:
- Charitable organizations that operate patient assistance programs or provide financial support to patients;
- Charitable contributions to foreign organizations or institutions outside of the U.S.;
- Sponsorships & Exhibits, or other events and fundraising programs;
- Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) of Astellas marketed products or Investigator Initiated Trials for Compounds in Development;
- Independent Medical Education (IME) Grants; CME Grants
- Product Donations;
- Lobbying activities, and contributions to political candidates, political parties, political action committees (PACs), or other political organizations;
- Charitable organizations with administrative costs totaling more than 25% of proposed total budget;
- Endowments;
- Religious groups for religious purposes
