The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in partnership with the Georgian Agency for Innovation and Technology (GITA), the Rural and Agricultural Development Agency (ARDA) and the NGO Forset, have launched a hackathon for rural development under COVID-19.
Hackathon aims to use innovative approaches and digital technologies to help deal with the challenges of COVID-19 in eight municipalities in Georgia.
Goals
The goals of the Hackathon are:
- Support for the tourism sector in crisis due to the pandemic and
- Promoting rural people or employed people, especially women.
Purpose
- Hackathon goal is to tackle the economic and social challenges posed by the pandemic using innovative approaches and digital technologies.
- Hackathon target municipalities are Keda, Khulo, Borjomi, Akhalkalaki, Tetritskaro, Kazbegi, Lagodekhi and Dedoplistskaro.
Funding Information
- Hackathon participants, with the help of mentors, will create digital product prototypes within 72 hours.
- Each winning team will receive GEL 20,000 for the implementation of their projects, which should be completed by August 2020.
- The first online Hackathon will take place on June 5-7, 2020 and its theme is “Employment and Tourism”.
Eligibility Criteria
Hackathon invite people interested in digital technologies, programmers, designers, as well as civil activists with innovative and technological ideas for rural development to participate in the hackathons.
