The Health and Nutrition Innovation Fund (HANIF) is seeking applications for its third round of funding in order to increase access to and impact of services for RMNCH and Nutrition. The fund aims to foster and promote innovations and out-of-box solutions to benefit poor communities, and increase their influence in policy decisions.
Health and Nutrition Innovation Fund (HANIF) as a grant fund for PHNP focuses on demand, accountability and supply of quality RMNCH and nutrition services to reduce maternal and child mortality. HANIF seeks out initiatives that demonstrate the potential for sustainable models of improved health service provision and accountability, through a blend of open calls for proposals and solicited grants.
Applicants are encouraged to apply in partnerships that promote mutually reinforcing and meaningful relationships that draw upon the comparative advantages of each other in a sustainable manner. Projects should be designed to measure impact and propose scalable innovations in order to address major health and nutrition issues. All of this together will add to evidence that will inform better policies and practices related to RMNCH and Nutrition.
The strategic approaches that HANIF has adopted in its funding mechanism include:
- Meaningful partnership
- Scalability of successful pilots
- Evidence based learning
Funding Categories
- Pilot: Up to GBP 50,000. For innovation being tested for the first time. Through this category applicant will propose to develop and test an innovation that has not been implemented before which means that it is a new idea being tested for the first time. The duration of the pilot will depends on its scope but should not exceed 6 months.
- Innovation followed by Implementation: Up to GBP 200,000. In this the applicant will test the innovation through a short pilot phase of 4-6 months followed by full implementation of innovation after making minor tweaks to the innovation. This window enables the applicant to obtain guarantee of further funding contingent upon third party verification of successful pilot. The total duration of the project must not exceed 15 months.
- Scale up: Up to GBP 400,000. For those innovations that have been successfully piloted and or implemented either in Pakistan or any other country and have been evaluated. The evaluation must demonstrate success. The total duration of the project must not exceed 15 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Following type of entities registered in Pakistan will be eligible to send their applications:
- Private For-Profit Firms or Companies/Businesses
- IT companies/Engineering Firms
- Branding and solution providers
- Consulting companies or firms
- Non-Governmental Organisations (Local and international)
- Civil Society Organisations
- Academia
- Media Organisations/Performing Art Houses
- Entrepreneurs
- Think Tanks/Research institutes
- Government Autonomous Bodies/Government Departments/Public sector organisations*
- Individual Consultants
- Local Entities: Must be registered in Pakistan under relevant government regulations and must have sufficient outreach capacity in the proposed geographic area. Preference will be given to organisations registered for 3+ years.
- International Entities: Must be registered in Pakistan, with minimum one year of operations and be able to operate a bank account in Pak Rupees. They must have an office in Pakistan.
- Individuals: Must be a Pakistani citizen residing in the country with sound track record and relevant qualification. He/she must have Pak Rupee bank account. Individuals can only apply for the Pilot funding category up to £15,000.
How to Apply
- Applicants must use HANIF provided forms and priority topics to submit the application. All supporting documents must be submitted via given website.
- The application has to address one of the priorities for this call. Priority areas are uploaded on the website.
- Two topics have been specified where Media and Performing Art houses may be the lead applicant or may be taken as implementing partners by NGOs, INGOs, Consulting companies and/or Public sector organisations. These are:
- Breast feeding and nutrition
- Health entitlement and health Rights
- The remaining topics that are Accountability, Family Planning, Immunisation and Skilled Birth Attendance are for NGOs, CSOs, Consulting firms, Businesses, IT firms, Academia, consultants, Research Institutes and Think tanks.
