The Heriot Community Fund comprises community benefit monies provided by the operators of two wind farms located near Heriot in the Scottish Borders; Shroders Greencoat, the owner of Carcant Wind Farm, and SSE, the owner of Toddleburn Wind Farm.
The fund supports community projects that benefit those living in the Heriot Community Council area. Externally based groups will only be considered if the organisation can demonstrate a significant benefit for the Heriot Community.
Purpose
- The fund provides grants to support charitable activities that:
- Encourage community activity and promote community spirit in Heriot;
- Ensure adequate access to services for all Heriot community members;
- Improve local transport infrastructure;
- Build the local economy;
- Build community capacity and cohesion between groups; and/or
- Develop or maintain community assets.
- Grants may support a wide range of costs, for example, the costs of equipment, staff or sessional workers, consultations, running costs for local groups, maintenance or refurbishment of community facilities, and so on.
Funding Information
- An annual amount totalling £38,200, inflation-adjusted, will be available for community projects benefitting Heriot over the operating life of the two wind farms, which is expected to be 25 years.
- Grant Size: £250-£10,000 (larger applications may be considered on an exceptional basis.
Eligibility Criteria
- Groups and organisations working to benefit people in the Heriot area can apply.
- Applications from groups/organisations located out with the fund area will be considered on a case-by-case basis and must demonstrate clear benefits for residents within the fund area.
- Management Committee
- There must be a minimum of three unrelated persons on the management committee or Board. This is to ensure that the group has a range of perspectives and experiences and is not dominated by the interests of a single family or similarly connected individuals.
- For the same reasons, the majority of your management committee or Board members must be unrelated.
- Accounts & Financial Procedures
- You must be able to supply your latest set of approved accounts, unless your organisation is less than 18 months old, in which case no accounts are required.
- For all constituted groups these will need to have been approved by your management committee or Board.
- For registered charities, accounts must be prepared and scrutinised in accordance with the requirements of Office Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).
- You must have your own bank account
- The organisation name on your accounts must match the name on the governing document and bank account.
Ineligibility Criteria
- They cannot fund the following:
- Non constituted groups.
- Applications from individuals. However, individuals may be able to apply for funding under any micro-grant scheme associated with a fund, or under some education and training funds.
- General fundraising appeals or activities.
- Trips abroad.
- Costs already incurred or activities which will take place before they’ve decided on an application, i.e. retrospective funding.
- The repayment of loans or payment of debts.
