High Commission of Canada in Mozambique is seeking proposals for its Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives to provide financial assistance to cover part or all the costs of projects that are comparatively modest in scope, scale and expense, and are generally designed, developed, proposed, and implemented by authorities or organizations of local base. This enables Canada to respond to local needs by working at the community level.
The CFLI is also a major tool of the Canadian government to strengthen relations between Canada, civil society and the local communities, helping to build networks of contacts around the world.
Thematic Priorities
- All CFLI funds projects must focus on the thematic priority of Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality.
- They may also address one or both of the following thematic priorities:
- Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
- Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change.
Funding Information
Applicants can apply for up to a maximum of C$50,000 in funding per project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Local non-governmental, community and not-for-profit organizations
- Local academic institutions working on local projects
- International, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working on local development activities
- Municipal, regional or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects, and
- Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations that are working on local development activities through a local office.
The majority of CFLI funding is directed toward local civil-society organizations (including non-governmental organizations) and other institutions working at the local level. Partners may be local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), village or neighborhood associations, economic interest groups, etc.
