Hivos East Africa and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) with funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are seeking proposals for its Sustainable Diets for All Programme. The programme aims to influence policy and practices of markets, government actors and international institutions through citizen action for the promotion of sustainable diets for all which are: Healthy: Nutritionally adequate and safe; Fair: Affordable and accessible for low income consumers and inclusive for all producers (women, men and youth) who get a fair deal; Green: Productive and respectful of biodiversity and ecosystems and Diverse: Based upon existing (traditional) diversity, adapted for multiple, evolving local circumstances, providing greater resilience.
The programme also supports civil society organizations to increase their capacity to influence policy and practices of market and government actors through citizen research, action and related advocacy to promote sustainable diets for all.
Aims
The programme aims to deliver policy change in three main areas:
- Healthy and Diverse Consumption, with a focus on awareness raising and the promotion of healthy food choices that improve diets.
- Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Informal Market Linkages: with a focus on how the informal food sector and small businesses can help connect cities with rural areas.
- Nutritious and Diverse Production: with a focus on crop and seed diversity including the preservation and promotion of traditional varieties.
Eligibility Criteria
- Hivos East Africa invites reputable national level organisations in Uganda with demonstrable experience, successful record and programmatic focus in lobby and advocacy for food and nutrition security including acess to seed to submit technical and financial proposals to this call to implement the programme at national level. The solicitation is for a contract period of 2 years from the date of signing the contract.
