Applications are now open for the to support one-off celebratory, educational, competitive, commemorative or exhibitive projects and events that help specific community groups to celebrate their identity and share them with the wider community.
Applications must also clearly demonstrate a link to at least one of the following Horowhenua District Council’s Strong Communities Ngā Hapori Kia Kaha – Community Wellbeing Strategy, 2021 – 2024 key principles:
- Collective action
- Community-led development is both an outcome and a way of doing things. It is one way of achieving Horowhenua’s community wellbeing vision of Horowhenua being a safe, vibrant, inclusive and connected community.
- Sense of community
- Promote inclusion, reduce discrimination and remove barriers to opportunity and participation, particularly for disadvantaged groups.
- Social cohesion
- Social cohesion involves building shared values and communities that anticipate opportunities, reducing disparities in wealth and income, and generally enabling people to have a sense that they are engaged in a common purpose, facing shared challenges, and that they are of the same community.
What can they apply for?
- Materials or supplies needed to run your project or event.
- Venue or equipment hire.
- Personnel and administrative costs for your projects or event.
- Promotion and publicity to attract attendees or participants to your project or event.
- Volunteer Support – If your project or event relies on volunteer support, funding can be requested towards the necessary resources or recognition for their contribution.
Eligibility Criteria
- These grants are open for applications from any not-for-profit group/organisation. The project or event must take place in the Horowhenua.
- Applications must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for consideration in having their projects funded:
- The project or event aims to support one-off celebratory, educational, competitive, commemorative or exhibitive projects and events that help specific community groups to celebrate their identity and share them with the wider community.
- Projects or events must be clearly defined with a beginning and end, occur for a limited time but are not regularly scheduled, i.e. weekly cultural activity classes.
- Projects and events should be locally significant, of special interest to the people of Horowhenua and enhance community wellbeing.
- The programme must demonstrate collaboration across community organisations
- The programme or project must be completed within the nine-month period of funds allocated.
Ineligible
- Individuals
- Central Government and other organisations that have significant means of regular income.
- Community and Social Development programmes.
- Organisations needing considerable capital funding.
- Organisational operating expenses.
