The Auckland Council is seeking applications for the Howick Quick Response Grant Program.
Funding Priorities
- They welcome grant applications that align to the following priorities:
- They support people to actively contribute to their community.
- They use their facilities and open spaces to meet their existing and future needs.
- Theyshare, celebrate and grow their culture, arts and music.
- Their natural and built environment is well-managed.
- Their sport and recreational opportunities respond to the needs of their growing communities.
- Their area is an attractive tourist destination.
Higher priority for eligibility
- They will prioritise applications that:
- Demonstrate smokefree programmes
- Demonstrate zero-waste activities
- Have a contribution from the applicant (for example, financial contributions, or volunteer time) or have considered alternate funding sources
- Demonstrate the benefit to the local community and are held in the local board area.
- They will consider applications responding to the needs of the community from the impact of COVID-19.
Lower priority for Eligibility
- They have identified the following activities as lower priorities:
- Fundraising events or activities, unless the activity or event has a wider community benefit.
- Ongoing operational costs including wages and salaries, with the exception of fees for professional services.
- Catering.
- Purchase of gear, assets, and/or equipment with limited future usage.
- Donations for volunteers, like petrol vouchers.

Eligibility Criteria
- Community organisations with a formal legal structure groups or individuals with no formal legal structure can apply for up to $1,000(Kaipatiki Local Board will not fund individuals)
- Applicants seeking funding over $1,000 will need to nominate an umbrella organisation or receive funding retrospectively.
Ineligible
- Political parties
- Internal applicants (i.e. to fund projects, programmes or facilities run by Auckland Council or its employees)
- Auckland Council CCOs (council-controlled organisations), including facilities owned and operated by Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA)
- Organisations receiving statutory funding from council via compulsory annual levies, under the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Act (ARAFA) or comparable legislation
- Other local authorities, government agencies or public sector entities.
- Commercial entities
- Commercial entities – e.g. Limited Liability Companies – may apply for grants in certain circumstances, except where individual local boards or governing body committees have specifically stated they will not consider applications from such entities. Please see the specific local board or regional grant programme.
- Projects, events or initiatives proposed by commercial entities would need to clearly and directly benefit the wider community. Examples of instances where they may fund a commercial entity are:
- To cover the costs of delivering a free community event or activity
- To subsidise the costs of a charged-for event or activity (i.e. reducing fees to a level that enables community access)
- To enable a charged-for event or activity to be delivered that would otherwise not be commercially viable, where that event or activity will help achieve their stated priorities and outcomes, and charges are not set at a level that would prevent broad participation.
- The following activities will not be funded:
- Debt servicing or repayment
- Legal expenses
- Activities that promote religious ministry or political purposes
- Medical expenses
- Public services that are the responsibility of central government e.g. core
- Education, health etc.
- Physical works – before the appropriate consents have been obtained
- Purchase of alcohol
