The Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility is seeking applications for the Inclusive Community Grants Program to ensure local government and community organizations consider Ontarians of all ages and abilities at every stage of community planning and development.
Priorities
- Priority 1: Increasing accessibility to outdoor spaces to improve older adults’ and people with disabilities’ community engagement.
- Activity: In alignment with a local AFC plan, install and promote features that support active living and engagement to make outdoor public spaces accessible for people with disabilities or older adults.
- Priority 2: Enhancing the supply of accessible and attainable housing to support older adults and people with disabilities to age in place, in support of the government’s broader goal to increase the housing supply.
- Activity: Support the development of local plans to build more accessible housing options for older adults and people with disabilities that builds upon principles of an agefriendly community.
- Priority 3: Increasing the number of inclusive communities by developing AgeFriendly Community (AFC) plans that support long-term community planning to address the needs of older adults and people with disabilities.
- Activity: Develop an AFC action plan, define local AFC principles or assess needs.
Funding Information
- Grants of up to $60,000 each are available to eligible applicants.
Priority Populations
- Ontario has a rich, diverse history and culture and has many unique rural and small urban communities, ethno-cultural immigrant, and Indigenous communities that all have aging populations embedded within them. This resource offers detailed information about three such populations:
- small urban and rural communities
- older immigrants
- Indigenous peoples.
- Applicants are encouraged to also offer activities related to their projects virtually or remotely to meet the needs of older adults and persons with disabilities who may not feel comfortable with in-person activities (such as consultations) or have difficulty accessing the location where activities are being held.
Eligibility Criteria
- Local governments:
- Municipalities
- District Social Services Administration Boards
- Local conservation authorities
- Community Organizations:
- Be not-for-profit
- Be legal entities
- Have been in operation for at least one year prior to application
- Indigenous Communities:
- First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and/or organizations
