The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) is currently seeking proposals from local partners in Brazil for a sub-grant of up to US$15,000 for activities related to current legal challenges affecting civil society organizations (CSOs) in the country. The sub-grant will support the efforts of local partners to:
- Assess those legal challenges based on domestic, international, and comparative law;
- Raise the awareness of Brazilians across sectors regarding the legal issues assessed; and
- Advance collective action to promote or defend civic space
Themes
The legal environment for civil society in Brazil is shaped by a broad range of laws; project proposals related to diverse relevant laws are eligible for support through this competition. Illustrative examples of project themes that may be considered are laws and practices related to:
- Peaceful assembly and protest
- Anti-corruption
- Anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing
- Social enterprise;
- Preferential tax treatment for not-for-profit organizations and their donors
- Indigenous associations
- Freedom of expression
Eligibility Criteria
This research call is open to individuals or organizations, including CSOs and academic institutions.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on the following factors:
- Compliance with eligibility requirements and application procedures;
- Demonstrated experience and expertise related to the issue proposed;
- Quality of proposal, including innovation, methodology, feasibility, and likelihood that it will contribute to improving the legal environment for civil society;
- Timeline;
- Proposed budget and apparent value for cost; and
- Commitment to continued engagement following conclusion of proposed activities.
