The French Embassy in Brazil, the French Research Institute for Development (IRD), the Territorial Collectivity of Guyana, CIRAD and the CNRS, together with the research support foundations of Brazilian states of Amazonas (FAPEAM), Amapá (FAPEAP) The Maranhão (FAPEMA) and the Pará (FAPESPA), are launching the 4th Call for projects to support the development of joint projects coordinated by researchers (teacher-researchers) belonging to educational, research and innovation institutions French, primarily located in the French Guiana region, in partnership with their Brazilian counterparts.
The main objective of the Guyamazon program is to promote the emergence of cross-border research, capacity-building and innovation projects on scientific themes linked to the challenges of sustainable development in Amazonian territories: Amazonian biodiversity, terrestrial and forest ecosystems, Aquatic inland and marine ecosystems, environment and health, renewable energies, family farming, human and social sciences, heritage and archeology.
The 4th Call for projects is in line with the precedents, while emphasizing the emergence of new research collaborations and the creation of bilateral scientific networks, focusing on the priority themes common to the states and regions of the Amazon.
Proposals should address the issues of sustainable development of the Amazon biome and the themes related to biodiversity and the development of territories or issues characteristic of them.
Thematic Areas
Proposals must be in the following scientific fields:
- Amazonian Biodiversity (knowledge, exploitation and sustainable management, spatial observation)
- Terrestrial and forest ecosystems (knowledge and sustainable management)
- Continental and Marine Aquatic Ecosystems
- Climate, environment, health
- Agro-ecology, family farming
- Renewable energies
- Human and social sciences, linked to regional issues (Governance, policies and strategies for sustainable territorial development, communities of inhabitants).
Types of Support
- Initiation of projects: The proposals in this category aim to support the rapprochement of French and Brazilian teams, allowing the emergence of research, innovation and / or capacity building projects. Duration: 6 to 12 months.
- Research projects: Proposals in this category are designed to support the implementation of research, innovation and / or capacity-building projects by the French and Brazilian teams. Duration: 24 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Projects submitted should be based on a balanced scientific collaboration between researchers, teachers, researchers or engineers from institutions of higher education, research and / or companies located in Brazil in the Northern States and France, preferably within of the Region of Guyana.
- Each project must consist of at least 2 teams: one Brazilian team and one French team. Each project must be presented by 2 coordinators: one French and one Brazilian, attached to at least one of the Brazilian states involved. Each part / project team will be funded directly by its country.
- Project holders may belong to a research institution, a public higher education institution or a private structure (priority SMEs, SMIs and innovative TPEs).
