The International Society for Infectious Diseases is accepting applictions for its Research Grants program to fund pilot research projects or training of young investigators from resource-limited countries.
The goal of the program is to support and foster the professional development of individuals (less than 40 years of age) in the field of human infectious diseases research by helping them to acquire additional skills and data to help advance their careers.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to investigations of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis or treatment of infectious diseases, the epidemiology and control of hospital-acquired infections, and modeling of cost effective interventions. The research must relate to infectious diseases affecting humans. ISID encourages applications in the area of infection control, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and on how to implement infection control measures in low and lower-middle income countries.
Priority Areas
Grants that address the following AMR issues will be given priority.
- National baseline AMR rates, antibiotic use rates and antibiotic prescribing practices in low or middle income countries
- National laboratory capacity evaluations (including private hospitals and labs)
- Trials of different antimicrobial stewardship models in hospitals
- Intervention trials for reducing over the counter dispensing in pharmacies and shops
- “One Health” AMR studies (must have a human component)
Funding Information
Up to eight grants of up to US $7,000 each will be awarded annually.
Eligibility Criteria
The ISID Research Grant program is open only to individuals who are residents of resource-limited countries, in the early stages of their research career, and have not previously received major research funding or who have not had an opportunity to work or study outside their region. Previous ISID grantees are not eligible.
