Lumina Foundation, in partnership with Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, has announced a request for proposals (RFPs) for grants that are designed to support postsecondary institutions that are implementing significant work to advance equity on campus and in the broader community.
Lumina Foundation is an independent, private foundation in Indianapolis that is committed to making opportunities for learning beyond high school available to all.
Types of Grant
- 4-5 grants of up to $100,000: These awards will be reserved for colleges and universities that can document them already initiated comprehensive efforts to advance equity on their campuses and in their communities. These institutions must show significant progress toward putting plans in place.
- Other grants of up to $25,000: These awards will support colleges and universities with efforts focused on issues related to equity and racial justice on campuses that propose significant work to enhance efforts to improve their campus climates.
- These grants are flexible and can support:
- Community and campus forums
- Staff/Faculty training and development
- Student training and development
- Campus-wide programming
- Other thoughtfully designed efforts
Eligibility Criteria
- Lumina Foundation makes grants within the United States and its territories, occasionally initiating a grant to an entity outside the United States in order to inform its work to expand access and success in postsecondary education in the United States.
- The Foundation only funds organizations that are classified as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and as public charities under section 509(a)(1), (2) or (3) of the Code or to public organizations that are designated under section 170(c) of the Code, not individuals. Lumina Foundation does not make grants to (a.) supporting organizations controlled by disqualified persons to Lumina or (b.) Type III supporting organizations that are not functionally integrated Type III supporting organizations (as such terms are defined in the Internal Revenue Code).
- The most competitive applications will:
- Articulate a vision of how a campus climate that supports equity will help accomplish institutional and communitywide objectives.
- Show evidence of meaningful effort to achieve equity among students of color.
- Indicate how the financial support will support proposed work or work in progress.
