The Ministry of European Funds, together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking applications for its “Diaspora Start- Up Programmes” with an aim to create opportunities to return to Romania for citizens residing abroad and build on the skills acquired by them (entrepreneurial and/or professional skills), by opening a business in the country.
The activities aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment through supporting the establishment of non-agricultural enterprises in urban areas, are considered eligible, in accordance with the provisions of HCOP 2014-2020.
Funding Information
- In the first stage, entrepreneurial scheme administrators submit project proposals to a maximum of EUR 5,000,000 with their commitment to prepare future entrepreneurs and provide them grants to launch business in the country.
- In the second stage, the eligible Romanian citizens wishing to establish a company can access funds amounting to a maximum of EUR 40,000 and can attend e-learning entrepreneurial training programmes provided by entrepreneurial scheme administrators.
Eligibility Criteria
- The entities that enter into partnership to create entrepreneurial scheme administrators are the following: public and private Approved Continuous Professional Training Providers, trade unions and employers, members of Sectoral Committees and legal Sectoral Committees, authorities of local governments (administrative and territorial units), professional associations, chambers of commerce and industry, NGOs, universities, Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Relations with the Business Environment and institutions/agencies/organizations subordinated/coordinated by it, partnerships between the categories mentioned above are eligible to apply.
- Romanian citizens, aged at least 18, who can prove that they have been resident or domiciled abroad for a minimum of 12 months and want to start a business in Romania are eligible.
