The Embassy of France to Malaysia is launching in three calls for scholarships in order to support Malaysian students and researchers who wish to pursue graduate training in France or aim to develop strong academic or research links with Higher Education Institutions in France.
Types of Calls
- Master Studies and Pre-Doctoral Mobility: 12-month scholarships for students wishing to enroll in a full Master’s programme in France (M1 + M2) or only the second year of Master’s (M2), with the objective of carrying on with their studies with a PhD in France, preferably in co-supervision or co-tutelle (joint PhD). In this case, the M2 internship will be the opportunity for them to get acquainted with their potential PhD director and set the ground for their PhD research work.
- Doctoral Mobility: financial support for PhD students, preferably engaged in a co-supervision or cotutelle (joint PhD) programme, and wishing to perform a 3-to-6-month research stay in France.
- Mobility for Researchers and Lecturers: one-month stays in France allowing for the researcher or lecturer to launch new research/training collaboration or develop an existing programme in a significant way.
Funding Information
- Master Studies and Pre-Doctoral Training in France
- A monthly allowance of around 850€ to cover living expenses (including the cost of housing)
- As French government scholarship holders, the selected candidates will also benefit from a social security coverage
- Waiving of tuition fees (up to € 5,000)
- Access to university housing (subject to availability).
- Waiving of “Etudes en France” and student visa fees.
- PhD Mobility: Research Stays in France
- A monthly allowance (around 1700 €/month)
- As French government scholarship holders, the selected candidates will benefit from a social security coverage
- Access to university housing (subject to availability)
- In some cases, round-trip ticket to France
- Call for Researchers and Lecturers to Develop Joint Collaboration Programmes
- Allowance (around 1700 € for a one-month stay) intended to cover all of the scholar’s expenses (including housing).
- In most cases, round-trip ticket to France
- Access to affordable or university housing (Subject to availability)
Eligibility Criteria
- Master Studies and Pre-Doctoral Training in France
- The call is open to Malaysian citizens under 28 years of age by 31 December 2025.
- Master Studies Grant: Students who have applied to enroll in M1 in September 2025 and wish to conduct both years of Master in France.
- Pre-Doctoral Studies: Students currently in their first year of Master and wishing to enroll in a second year in France (M2). They should be willing to do a PhD in France, preferably in co-supervision or co-tutelle (joint PhD) with a Malaysian University.
- PhD Mobility: Research Stays in France
- The call is open to Malaysian citizens who:
- are under 35 years of age in 2025
- have been accepted or are already enrolled in:
- a PhD programme in France and in Malaysia (cotutelle/joint degree) or
- a PhD programme in Malaysia (ex. Co-supervision) and can provide an official acceptance letter from the host institution in France
- The call is open to Malaysian citizens who:
- Call for Researchers and Lecturers to Develop Joint Collaboration Programmes
- The call is open to:
- Researchers of any nationality under 55 years of age in 2025
- Working full-time in a Malaysian institution
- Who are in contact with researcher(s) or lecturer(s) in France and/or already involved in an active collaboration between two research units in France and in Malaysia.

- Master Studies and Pre-Doctoral Training in France
- Excellence of academic record and skills of the candidate
- Quality and relevance of selected studies and internship project
- Added value of the training/research performed in France
- Targeted institution
- Future professional prospects/project
- For the Pre-Doctoral Programme: Likelihood of the student actually enrolling in a PhD training in France. Previous contact with the potential hosting lab and/or PhD director is indispensable.
- PhD Mobility: Research Stays in France
- Excellence of academic record and competencies
- Quality and relevance of the PhD project with regards to the ongoing bilateral collaboration
- Targeted institution(s)
- Future professional prospects/project
- Added value of the research performed in France
- Call for Researchers and Lecturers to Develop Joint Collaboration Programmes
- Eligible applications will be evaluated by experts from the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR). Evaluation criteria include:
- Excellence of the record and skills of the candidate
- Quality of the submitted research project and perspectives in term of scientific production (publications, outreach programme, etc.)
- Relevance and potential impact of the project in terms of the collaboration in research and training (student mobility) between France and Malaysia
- Targeted institution
- Eligible applications will be evaluated by experts from the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR). Evaluation criteria include:
