The European Commission (EC) has launched the Natural Resources Management and reduction of Vulnerabilities of Local Communities Programme to empower civil society organizations to contribute to the protection of biodiversity in the Mid Zambezi and South East Lowveld regions.
With a landscape approach, the EU searches to enhance management of natural resources, including ecosystems’ integrity and the potential environmental services and economic benefits they can produce, promoting sustainable land use practices, developing and implementing adequate land and resources management plans. This initiative contributes to the Team Europe Initiative on ‘Greener and Climate Smart Agriculture.
Objectives
- The global objective of this call for proposals is: to contribute to the economic and social well-being of Zimbabwean citizens while improving the management of natural resources in the South East Lowveld and the Mid-Zambezi.
- The specific objectives of this call for proposals are:
- Improve natural resource management with the participation of local communities, including women.
- Improve resilience of communities and reduce vulnerability of communities to human-wildlife conflict (HWC).
Priorities
- The priorities of this call for proposals are:
- Priority 1: Promotion of wildlife conservation, protection of wildlife corridors, reduction of degradation of natural habitats and halting biodiversity loss in protected areas and surrounding areas, and
- Priority 2: Mitigation of Human-Wildlife Conflict and its impact on local communities, safeguarding both human and wildlife populations, and
- Priority 3: Increased resilience of communities neighbouring well-preserved natural areas.
Funding Information
- The overall indicative amount made available under this call for proposals is EUR 10 000 000.
- Indicative allocation of funds by lot/geographical distribution
- Lot 1: Mid Zambezi (Kariba-Binga Districts): EUR 5 000 000
- Lot 2: Mid Zambezi (Mbire District): EUR 2 500 000
- Lot 3: South East Lowveld (Chiredzi District and the area of the Sengwe Tchipise corridor belonging to Beitbridge): EUR 2 500 000
- Size of grants
- Any grant requested under this call for proposals must not exceed the below maximum amount:
- Lot 1, maximum amount: EUR 5 000 000. Minimum amount: EUR 3 000 000.
- Lot 2, maximum amount: EUR 2 500 000. Minimum amount: EUR 1 500 000.
- Lot 3, maximum amount: EUR 2 500 000. Minimum amount: EUR 1 500 000.
- Any grant requested under this call for proposals must not exceed the below maximum amount:
- Indicative allocation of funds by lot/geographical distribution
Duration
- The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 24 months nor exceed 48 months.
Location
- Actions must take place in one of the following regions of Zimbabwe:
- For Lot 1: Kariba and Binga Districts
- For Lot 2: Mbire District
- For Lot 3: Chiredzi District and the area of the Sengwe Tchipise corrider belonging to Beitbridge.
Eligibility Criteria
- Lead applicant
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be a legal person and
- be non-profit-making and
- be a non-governmental organisation.
- be established in a Member State of the European Union, or in Zimbabwe, or in another country which is a eligible under the NDICI – Global Europe
- and
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co- applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary.
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- Co-applicant(s)
- Co-applicants participate in designing and implementing the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the lead applicant.
- Co-applicants must satisfy the eligibility criteria as applicable to the lead applicant himself.
