The Global Digital New Work Fund 2022 is now open for applications to amplify innovative digital arts practice and encourage exploration and experimentation by supporting the development of new, high-quality digital artwork for global audiences.
This fund supports researching, developing and/or creating new artwork in the digital space to be experienced by global audiences. It does this by supporting the development of new, high-quality digital artwork for global audiences.
Priority will be given to:
- Artists or arts organisations for whom digital or emerging technologies are integral to their practice
- Projects that foster experimentation and innovation in the development, creation, distribution, or experience of digital artwork
- Projects where the international presenter, digital platform or collaborator is investing financially in the development or presentation of the digital artwork
- Projects that demonstrate the potential to develop new and on-going international audiences or relationships.
Funding Information
The fund has two strands – one for Research and one for New Work. You can apply for one strand only and you must select the strand you wish to apply for within the application portal to access the correct application form.
- Research Strand ($5,000 – $10,000 per application)For researching and developing a concept with the intention that it will lead to a global presentation.
- New Work Strand ($5,000 – $150,000 per application)
For the creation of new digital artwork for global audiences. This includes artistic work that uses new and emerging technology in the creation, distribution or experiencing of the work.
Benefits and Track Record
To be eligible for Creative New Zealand funding:
- Your project or activities must directly benefit New Zealand arts, artists or practitioners.

You must have a track record of experience and success — this means you must have:
- Recognition from peers or experts
- Achieved a degree of critical or sales success
- Specialized training or practical experience.
Eligibility Criteria

They welcome applications from independent artists and practitioners, collectives, arts organisations, recipients of Annual Arts Grants, and organisations in Creative New Zealand’s Toi Tōtara Haemata and Toi Uru Kahikatea investment programmes.

They will also consider applications from those that have:
- An existing work currently in a ‘traditional’ form that will be significantly adapted for the digital context. They’ll look for innovation in how the work is created and/or experienced
- Started developing a digital work but wish to apply for funding to help complete the work.
