Applications are now open for the Auckland Council’s Ōrākei Local Grant Programme to support projects, activities and services that benefit Aucklanders.
Funding Priorities
- They welcome grant applications that align to the following priorities:
- Neighbourhoods, community centres and public places are safe and attractive.
- Public art and local heritage are supported by the community.
- The community benefits from a number of community events.
- Bike stands/racks amenity towards sustainable transport options.
- The natural environment is valued, protected and enhanced by their communities.
- Their natural areas are restored and enhanced for present and future generations.
- More of their community participates in environmental enhancement projects.
- The health of their waterways is improved.
- A thriving economy which supports local businesses and town centres.
- Local and overseas visitors are attracted to their area.
- The recreational needs of different users are met.
- Activities that are led by the community, encourage and support people from all walks of life at actively participate in their community.
- Community activities for activation of coastal areas around major events.
- Higher priority for eligibility
- Ōrākei Local Board will prioritise grants from groups that can demonstrate a “match funding” approach. This is where groups can demonstrate a significant community contribution in time, money and/or in-kind services.
- Lower priority for eligibility
- Ōrākei Local Board will also consider applications for other services, projects, events and activities.
- However, in addition to the eligibility criteria outlined in the Community Grants Policy 2014, the following may be considered a lower priority:
- Commercial entities and promotion of commercial entities.
- Ticketed events.
- Catering.
- Operational costs, including wages and salaries except where professional services is required beyond the expertise of the applicant, i.e. planning and engineering fees.
- Activities or events that primarily benefit communities outside the Ōrākei area.
- Projects and activities in schools that do not demonstrate wider community benefits.

- Grant value: $3000 – $10000
Outcomes
Their grants programme will aim to provide contestable grants to local communities, such as:
- residents associations
- business associations
- friends of groups
- all other community groups and individuals doing projects for the community.
Types of Projects Funded by the Grant
What they don’t fund?
- Projects that community grants don’t fund
- Community grants are not available for:
- debt servicing or repayment
- legal or medical expenses
- activities that promote religious ministry or political purposes
- public services that are the responsibility of central government, e.g. core education, health
- physical works (e.g. improvements to community buildings) before the appropriate consents have been obtained
- purchase of alcohol.
- Community grants are not available for:
- Projects that regional grants don’t fund
- In addition to the exclusions listed above, they will also not fund:
- medical expenses
- travel and accommodation outside Auckland
- retrospective costs
- fundraising events or activities.
