Deadline: 11-Jan-23
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications for the Center for Early Lifestage Vulnerabilities to Environmental Stressors – Cumulative Health Impacts for Children in Underserved Rural Agricultural Communities in the United States.
EPA is interested in supporting a transdisciplinary research center that will investigate the cumulative health impacts of early lifestage (prenatal and childhood up to adolescence) exposures to pollutants in conjunction with other relevant non-chemical stressors among children in underserved, rural agricultural communities in the United States.
Funding Information
- It is anticipated that a total of approximately $1,900,000 will be awarded under this announcement, depending on the availability of funds, quality of applications received, and other applicable considerations. The EPA anticipates funding one award under this RFA. Requests for amounts in excess of a total of $1,900,000, including direct and indirect costs, will not be considered. The total project period requested in an application submitted for this RFA may not exceed 4 years.
Expected Outputs and Outcomes
- The expected outputs from this research will be novel and comprehensive scientific information, publications, data, and knowledge about how exposures to multiple pollutants and other environmental stressors in early lifestages are quantitatively and/or qualitatively linked to specific health outcomes. Research results will also include important information on nonchemical environmental stressors and modifying factors that significantly affect vulnerability to both exposure and health effects among children in underserved, rural agricultural communities in the United States.
- The expected outcomes include reductions in adverse impacts to children’s health and well-being from exposure to chemical and non-chemical environmental stressors; improved preventive policy and programs to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women, infants, and children; and healthier early childhood development void of adverse effects. The proposed research should improve decision-making to protect children resulting in healthier early childhood development and reduced risk of adverse effects across all lifestages. Reduction in environmental health disparities for children living in underserved, rural agricultural communities is a significant desired outcome.
Eligibility Criteria
- Public and private nonprofit institutions/organizations, public and private institutions of higher education (IHEs), and hospitals located in the U.S. and its territories or possessions; state and local governments; Federally Recognized Indian Tribal Governments; and U.S. territories or possessions are eligible to apply.
