The U.S. Embassy Nairobi at the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announces this Notice of Funding Opportunity for fiscal transparency.
To achieve the goals and expected results, the program could include the following:
- Facilitate trainings for civil society groups/organizations to promote fiscal transparency;
- Organize media interventions to build public awareness and support for increase fiscal transparency;
- Produce education materials on the importance of budget transparency and the role of Kenya’s supreme audit institution.
Objective
- Successful projects should assist government institutions to strengthen budgeting and auditing procedures. Countries must have been evaluated as part of the Fiscal Transparency Report (FTR) to be eligible for funding.
Funding Information
- Funding Amount: Up to USD $500,000.
- Period of Performance: Up to 12 months.
Expected Outcomes
- Specific results could include the following:
- Build public financial management capacity
- Construct online portals and citizens budgets for the public dissemination of budget documents.
- Strengthen collaboration among government officials, civil society, and journalists
- Improve financial stewardship of natural resources and related State-owned enterprises.
- Improve compliance with international standards and commitments, including from IMF, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), and Open Government Partnership (OGP).

- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations
- Private educational institutions
- Individuals
Application Requirements
- Application must have the following format:
- The proposal clearly addresses the goals and objectives of this funding opportunity
- All documents are in English
- All budgets are in U.S. dollars
- All pages are numbered
- All documents are formatted to 8 ½ x 11 paper, and
- All Microsoft Word documents are single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, with a minimum of 1-inch margins.
