The Northern Territory Government is committed to evolving Australia Day to ensure it meaningfully acknowledges, recognises and celebrates Aboriginal culture and Aboriginal people’s contribution to the Northern Territory identity.
Aim
- To provide funding which contributes to celebrating Aboriginal culture, language history and achievements as part of the Northern Territory’s Australia Day celebrations, aiming to strike a balance between commemoration and a respectful celebration of Australia Day.
- The grant is an important component of the Northern Territory’s ‘Everyone Together’ Aboriginal Affairs Strategy that recognises the importance of ‘truth and healing’ by empowering Aboriginal Territorians to celebrate and recognise key events how they wish to, along with educating broader Territorians.
Funding Information
- A grant of up to $5,000 to promote and manage an event/project/activity that celebrates and/or recognises Aboriginal culture, language history and achievements as part of Australia Day celebrations in 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- Who can apply?
- Northern Territory based Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
- Northern Territory based Aboriginal Organisations
- Northern Territory Aboriginal businesses
- Northern Territory sports and social/leisure clubs
- Individuals can apply however, must be able to demonstrate a link/support structure with an organisation in the Northern Territory and meet all criteria and acquittal requirements. Organisations/individuals can only apply for one grant through this program.
- All applicants must have a registered ABN.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Funds cannot be made available for:
- Provision of alcohol
- Any activity of a political nature
- Any activity of a commercial or business nature
- Any fundraising events
- Purchase of capital equipment
- Funding for projects that have already been completed or items that have been provided or previously purchased
