Qatar National Research Fund is inviting applicants for its National Priorities Research Program – STANDARD (NPRP-S) to support research that addresses Qatar’s needs.
The objective of the program is to competitively select research projects that will address national priorities through supporting basic and applied research as well as translational research/experimental development.
Aims
The NPRP-S aims to focus on meritorious research projects that demonstrate a potential impact on the development of Qatar’s society and economy with an emphasis on:
- tackle needs and challenges that local research end-users face;
- support projects with tangible impacts;
- focus on subjects that are highly promising in terms of commercial and technological potential;
- promote a public-private partnership culture in Qatar;
- encourage a more cross-cutting / interdisciplinary approach to projects;
- stimulate scientific excellence and the advancement of knowledge in Qatar.
Priorities
Research projects will be selected based on the following priorities:
- Proposals addressing priority themes with cash co-funding from research end-users,
- Proposals addressing priority themes with co-funding in-kind from research end-users,
- Proposals addressing priority themes in collaboration with research end-users without co-funding,
- Proposals addressing priority themes without co-funding,
- Proposals addressing other Grand Challenges.

- Diversify and develop Qatar’s industry and services towards a knowledge-based economy.
- Support the development and enforcement of public policies, governance and public services in Qatar.
- Focus on hotspot R&D fields, in which Qatar may be positioned to take some leadership.

Funding Information
Up to four year award. Application budget may not exceed US $200K for a one year project, US $400K for a two year project, US $600K for a three year project and US $700K for a four year project. For projects of more than one year, the budget may not exceed US $250K in any year.
Eligibility Criteria
- The LPI from academic/research institution must be a researcher who holds a researchoriented doctorate or any of the approved terminal degrees as defined under the approved list of terminal degrees and has at least five peer reviewed publications.
- The LPI from a research end-user entity may not hold a terminal degree, however he/she must have a track record in managing technology development projects and/or research projects, and a minimum of five publications or authored patent applications/patents.
- The LPI must be affiliated with an institution inside Qatar.
