The Scottish Refugee Council is seeking applications for its Reaching New Scots Fund with an aims to create a fairer and more accessible approach to funding, making it easier for refugee-led community groups to successfully apply for grants.
The Reaching New Scots Fund is designed and managed by people from refugee backgrounds in partnership with The National Lottery Community Fund.
Funding Information
Organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to £30,000 for projects that help people seeking safety feel more at home in Scotland. Your project must do at least one of the following:
- Raise awareness of services for New Scots
- Remove barriers that prevent New Scots from accessing services
- Build capacity for New Scots to access services
Eligibility Criteria
- They only accept applications for projects based in Scotland.
- This funding opportunity is open to groups and organisations across Scotland that are run by New Scots or offer support to refugees and people seeking asylum.
- The Reaching New Scots Fund aims to support smaller charities and not for profit groups that are often underfunded. For this reason, they can only accept applications from organisations with an average annual income of less than £250,000.
You can apply if your organisation is a:
- Community Interest Company (CIC): A company registered with Companies House. And the Community Interest Company (CIC) Regulator
- Registered charity (unincorporated): A voluntary or community organisation that’s a registered charity. But isn’t a company registered with Companies House.
- Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO): A registered charity with limited liability, but is not a company registered with Companies House.
- Not-for-profit company: A company limited by guarantee – registered with Companies House. And might also be registered as a charity.
- Unregistered voluntary or community organisation: An organisation set up with a governing document – like a constitution. But isn’t a registered charity or company. If you don’t have a constitution yet you can contact Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) for support.
- Schools/colleges (extra curriculum)
- Has an average annual income of less than £250,000 over the past 3 years (groups that were founded within the last 3 years are also welcome to apply)
- They encourage applications from groups that haven’t received project funding or multi-year funding before.
- All organisations who apply should have an average annual income of less than £250,000 over the past 3 years. This is in order to attracter smaller, often underfunded charities. They ask for an average income (where available) because they are aware that extra funding was available for charities during the Covid pandemic, and therefore 2021 income may not be representative.
Ineligible
They cannot accept applications from:
- Housing associations
- Companies that pay profits to directors, shareholders or members (including Companies Limited by Shares)
- Individuals
- Statutory/public bodies (eg local councils)
- Groups that have already received funding from The National Lottery Community Fund in collaboration with the Scottish Refugee Council in June 2022.
