Applicants are invited to apply for the AECF REACT Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) competitions to support Private Sector to meet the energy needs of rural communities in Africa
The AECF’s engagement in the energy sector under REACT SSA is designed to catalyze the private sector to increase supply of cleaner fuels, raise awareness of the dangers from indoor air pollution, demonstrate how new knowledge in renewable energy technologies can be put into practice in ways that benefit the poor especially women, provide evidence on challenges in policy formulation and implementation.
Grants Information
- For Liberia
- Total grant funds requested from AECF must be between US$100,000 and US$1,500,000.
- For Mali and Mozambique
- The total amount of grants requested from AECF must be between US $ 100,000 and US $ 1,500,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- For Liberia: To be eligible for funding, private sector companies and MFIs (either existing and / or start-ups) must meet the following criteria:
- Be a private sector enterprise that is aligned with the focus areas. Joint ventures are allowed.
- Be able to show commitment to match AECF funding, based on the ratio of1: 0.25 (AECF to investee).
- Request funds amount within the stipulate range of US$ 100,000 – US$ 1.5 million. This is full grant funding.
- Be compliant with fundamental in country and international human rights, labour standards, environmental management laws.
- Must be legally registered and physically established in the country of doing business.
- Must NOT be involved in any act of terrorism or support terrorists’ activities and must allow regular due diligence on this.
- For Mali
- Applicant’s company is a private company operating in the areas of financing and target technologies.
- Applicant’s company is legally registered and physically established in Mali
- Applicant’s project idea will be implemented in Mali.
- Applicant’s company (including third parties such as co-investors or banks and other lenders) provides at least 25% of the funds requested to AECF. Counterpart funds will be fully cash.
- The project is expected to provide high-quality, affordable and affordable clean energy products and services for the benefit of rural, peri-urban poor or displaced (especially women).
- Applicants must demonstrate that the project will contribute to environmental sustainability, including environmental and climate aspects.
- Applicant’s company must comply with fundamental national and international human rights, labor standards, environmental management laws.
- Applicant’s company should NOT be involved in an act of terrorism or support the activities of terrorists and allow regular due diligence in this regard.
- For Mozambique: Applicants must meet the following criteria for application to be considered:
- Company is a private sector for-profit enterprise aligned with the funding focus areas and target technologies.
- Company is legally registered and physically established in Mozambique.
- Project idea will be implemented in Mozambique.
- Company (including 3rd parties such as co-investors or banks and other lenders) is providing at least 50% of the requested funds from AECF. Up to 40% of the matching funds may be in kind. Examples of acceptable in-kind contributions can include sweat equity; allocations of stock; or existing machinery and equipment allocated for use in the proposed project.
- The project must deliver low cost, affordable, quality clean energy products and services that benefit the rural and peri urban poor (especially women).
- Applicants must demonstrate that the project will contribute to environmental sustainability, including environmental and climate change aspects.
- Company must be compliant with fundamental in country and international human rights, labour standards, environmental management laws.
- Company must NOT be involved in any act of terrorism or support terrorists’ activities.
- Company must allow regular due diligence by AECF.
