The Yarra City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for the Artist in Residence program that encompasses a range of free or subsidised spaces that help keep the arts in Yarra.
As the City continues to change, presenting challenges to creatives, arts and cultural organisations, Council is providing support to keep Yarra a vibrant, creative centre for the artsthrough several Council-owned spaces, making it easier for creatives to have access to spaces.
Eligibility Criteria
- An individual or group applicant who can demonstrate the need of the residency in support of the development of their creative practice;
- Applicants who propose a public outcome or program during or at the conclusion of their residency for the Yarra community;
- Applicants who have already participated in the Room to Create Artist-in- Residency program are ineligible to apply;
- Applicants who are currently studying are ineligible to apply.
Assessment Criteria
Individual artists or groups may submit one proposal only as part of the Expression of Interest process. Proposals will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Innovative and/or emerging practice e.g. an innovative project might mean it is exciting, new, or experimental. Emerging means your practice or project is in its early stages and demonstrates potential and capacity to build;
- Priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate a need for a space to develop their work;
- Applicants who consider the residency within the context of the location and community;
- Engagement provided to the community by the public program or outcome during or at the completion of the residency; i.e. an outcome could be an open studio weekend, performance, publication, or other presentation that shows your art to other people;
- Has the capacity to successfully complete the project. Ie. What skills do you have for your project, can you demonstrate you can commit to using the space regularly.
