Eurometropolis of Strasbourg is inviting applications for the International solidarity fund for access to water and sanitation aims to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development objective no. 6 adopted by the UN in 2015: “Guarantee access for all to water and sanitation and ensure sustainable management of water resources in the world by 2030.”
The UN, in its 2030 agenda, adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which provide the path to follow to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
The 2005 law known as Oudin-Santini (law no. 2005-95) allows communities, unions and water agencies to devote up to 1% of their water and sanitation budget to finance international solidarity actions in these sectors.
The Strasbourg Eurometropolis contributes to this sustainable development objective no. 6 by setting up an international solidarity fund of which the Rhine-Meuse Water Agency is a privileged partner.
Funding Information
- The fund is endowed with an envelope of 50,000 euros from the Eurométropole alongside which the Rhine-Meuse Water Agency, privileged partner of this system, mobilizes an equivalent amount.
- projects can be financed up to a maximum of 80% of the total eligible budget
- the subsidy paid cannot be less than €10,000.
Project Eligibility
- be of general interest and concern water or sanitation,
- encourage the emergence of sustainable services providing access to water and sanitation among disadvantaged populations in developing countries, in particular by strengthening public water project management
- involve local partners and ensure participation local contribution of 5% minimum to the financing of the project (in cash form and/or in-kind contributions),
- have a local relay, in the form of representation, a partnership with an NGO or with a local authority, capable of monitoring the completion of the project and the work and certifying its proper execution,
- present guarantees of sustainable management of works and their maintenance (involvement of beneficiaries, training, governance, etc.),
- be consistent with other water and sanitation programs developed in the area where the project is taking place for the sake of coordination and efficiency.
Ineligible Projects
- Individual projects, internships, discovery stays and cultural exchanges, fundraising and sponsorships, as well as projects of a political or religious nature, are not eligible.
Who can apply?
- international solidarity associations or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) based in the territory of the Strasbourg Eurometropolis have priority,
- the municipalities of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg,
- international solidarity associations or NGOs located in the territory of competence of the Rhine-Meuse Water Agency,
- NGOs with an international dimension based in France and which develop projects in the cooperation territories of the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg (according to the geographical criteria for allocation of the Fund) or in the territories of active institutional cooperation of the agency of the Rhine-Meuse water.
