The Jim Joel Fund is now open for organizations to support the childhood development sector in South Africa.
What do they fund?
- The Jim Joel Fund is the South African conduit for funding from The Childwick Trust in the UK and currently supports a number of training providers working in the ECD sector.
- These are some of the activities that they fund:
- Accredited Level 4 and 5 NQF training
- Skills based courses
- Parenting support and home visiting programmes
- Enrichment and playroom support programmes
- Capacity building and mentorship for leaders of training providers
- Materials and resource development
- Outreach programmes
- Playgroups
- Toy libraries
- Support to ECD networks
- Distribution of books for young children
- Support for operation costs
What do they don’t fund?
- Any private, home based or community owned early learning programmes (ECD pre-schools/creches)
- Children’s homes or children’s organisations
- Capital costs i.e. purchase of a vehicle or building costs of any kind
- Bursaries
- Attendance at international or local conferences
- Research
- Any organisations operating outside SA
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant’s organisation has an NPO number and a PBO number.
Application review process
- The review process is managed by the board of Trustees who meet to discuss all applications in detail. This thorough process takes them 12 weeks to complete, therefore, within 3 months you will be informed whether or not your application has been successful.
- Each funding round they receive more applications than they able to grant, so please do not be disappointed if your organisation is not offered a grant.
