Deadline: 27-May-25
The Journalism Support Fund (FAJ) has the mission of strengthening journalistic ecosystems in Brazil, contributing to a more equitable, plural and sustainable environment in the production and dissemination of information.
FAJ supports organizations that produce coverage and investigation of events relevant to the daily lives of the local population, promoting citizenship through information and contributing to public debate and social participation.
Areas
- To achieve this mission, the Fund acts on three main axes:
- Financial Strengthening:
- Democratizing access to resources for public interest journalism organizations by offering flexible, long-term financial support with a focus on institutional development and sustainability.
- Capacity Development:
- Providing personalized training and mentoring programs, focused on organizational strengthening, innovation and sustainability of the supported initiatives.
- Knowledge Production:
- Developing research and analysis on the public interest journalism scenario in Brazil, maintaining a constant dialogue with the field to continually improve support strategies.
- Financial Strengthening:
Funding Information
- In 2025, FAJ will launch a national call to select up to 15 local journalism organizations, which will receive institutional, financial support and specialized mentoring for a period of up to three years, with annual resources between R$75,000.00 and R$150,000.00 per initiative.
How will it work?
- The beneficiary organizations will receive mentoring and support throughout the project. They are targeting the resources specifically to organizations that do not have direct access to large funders, providing long-term institutional support to those that, until now, have only been able to access funding for specific projects.
- The first round of support is scheduled for the first half of 2025 and will focus on local journalism. The decision to prioritize this segment in the pilot phase was based on the results of the consultation sent to the field and on surveys on the distribution of resources.
- In addition, they seek a more equitable distribution of resources, including greater geographic, racial and gender diversity, as well as different types of media outlets. With these changes, they aim to strengthen a more robust, inclusive and resilient journalistic ecosystem, capable of playing a fundamental role in promoting democracy and access to quality information.
