Submissions are now open for the Regional Events Grants Programme to support diverse strategic events that showcase Auckland, build regional pride and identity, inspire a sense of community belonging and stimulate economic activity.
Funding Priorities
- They will prioritise events that:
- support the other strategic outcomes, for example sport and recreation, arts and culture, and community development
- build regional identity
- showcase Auckland’s assets (such as its harbours and coastline, stadiums, and renowned and talented people)
- have a positive impact across the region
- expand the variety or range of events on the annual calendar
- fill an identified gap or meet the needs of a target community, such as children and young people
- celebrate Māori culture as Auckland’s unique point of difference in the world
- take place during the winter ‘low season’ (between May and September).
Outcomes
- The outcomes sought through this grants programme are:
- to bring people together to share memorable experiences
- to celebrate Auckland and its people
- to commemorate and respect important occasions
- to profile Auckland and its diverse localities.
- They will also consider:
- arts and cultural events
- sport and recreation events
- community events.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to apply for funding from the Auckland Council Regional Event Fund, the event and/or event organiser(s) must meet the following criteria.
- The event must be in the Auckland region.
- The organisation responsible for the event must be a legal entity such as a trust, company or incorporated society, and must be able to provide evidence of this status if requested.
- The organisation must have no outstanding debt owing to Auckland Council or any Council Controlled Organisations.
- The event/organiser must fully declare any additional council, local board or council-controlled organisation funding, grant or koha/ donation for the event.
- The event cannot have already taken place as at the date scheduled for allocation of funds.
- If the application is for a sporting event, the event must be officially recognised by the national body of that sport.
- The applicant must comply with all Auckland Council regulatory and statutory requirements relating to the preparation and delivery of the event, including obtaining all necessary permits and consents.
- The event must be held within the planned timeframe.
- Please note: all events will require public liability insurance, however the amount of cover will be assessed on an individual event basis.
- Higher priority for eligibility:
- Māori events that celebrate Māori culture as Auckland’s unique point of difference in the world, or involve participation or attendance by Māori.
- Pasifika events that celebrate Pacific cultures, or involve participation or attendance by Pacific peoples.
- Youth events that involve significant participation or attendance by youth.
- Events that take place during the winter ‘low season’ (between May and September).
- Diverse communities’ events that provide an opportunity to showcase cultures and communities to all Aucklanders.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Some types of events and event-related costs are not eligible for funding through this fund:
- private functions, lunches or dinners
- political events
- events that promote religious, ministry or political purposes
- events run solely for commercial profit or individual gain
- events that denigrate, exclude or offend parts of the community
- events that present a hazard to the community or pose a significant risk to the public or council
- events that have already been held
