The City of Perth is now accepting applications for Sustainable Building Grant Program.
The City of Perth is committed to developing and supporting flourishing social, environmental and economic systems, working in harmony to sustain a thriving and vibrant city for current and future generations. The City will lead by example by understanding the impact of its own operations and also encourage and support the broader community.
The Sustainable Building Grant program supports body corporates in residential buildings to undertake environmental rating, certifications, audits, and assessments for existing buildings to determine their environmental performance and identify improvements to be resource efficient and work towards net-zero emissions.
Funding Priorities
The funding will prioritise projects that:
- Drive existing residential buildings to be resource efficient and contribute towards net-zero emissions.
- Support existing residential buildings to obtain energy assessments and/or accreditation.
Funding Information
- Funding Levels Grants of up to $10,000 (excluding GST) are available. Payment will be paid upfront, with 25% of the grant retained until completion of a successful acquittal.
- The maximum contribution of grant funding provided by the City is 100% of the total project cost (within the funding limit of $10,000).
Types of Projects Supported
- NABERS Energy Rating plus Water Rating, Waste Verification, and Waste Platform.
- Green Star Performance assessment and/or certification.
- Residential energy, water and waste audits.
- Renewables/electrification feasibility assessments.
- Net-zero action plans.
Program Outcomes
To guide and inform the City’s direction and approach for Sustainable Building Grants, three key outcomes have been identified as a priority. These outcomes are aligned to the city’s strategic pillars and Sustainability Strategy 2022-2032.

- Support the City’s vision of being a sustainable city by championing environmental sustainability actions and empowering the community to contribute towards net-zero.
- Adapt and upgrade existing buildings to improve their environmental performance.
- Educate and encourage residents to reduce emissions through energy and water efficiency and waste minimisation.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for funding an applicant must;
- Be a legally constituted body corporate/owners corporation of an existing residential strata-title building with an Australian Business Number (ABN), with at least four apartments in total (applications from mixed-used strata are eligible for residential areas only);
- Be located within the City of Perth’s local government area;
- Have appropriate insurances, licenses and authorities where required;
- Be using external suppliers that are appropriately certified to undertake assessments;
- Have submitted the application prior to the project commencement date with sufficient time to enable consideration by the City; and
- Demonstrate financial viability without the City’s funding (an individual project may not be viable without the City’s support, however the organisation must be).
