The Natural Resource Management (NRM) is now accepting applications for its Tamar Action Grants program to provide funding for dairy farmers and graziers in the Tamar Estuary and Esk River catchments to exclude stock from waterways through on-ground works and installation of infrastructure as well as improved effluent management practices in the dairy industry.
Objectives
- NRM North has been selected as the preferred provider to deliver the Tamar Estuary River Health Action Plan – Catchment Works Program. The program provides funding to support a range of activities that help improve water quality by reducing pathogen concentrations in the kanamaluka/Tamar estuary.
- The Tamar Action Grants aim to significantly improve water quality in the kanamaluka/ Tamar estuary by excluding stock from waterways, rehabilitating riparian revegetation buffers on dairy and grazing farms, and improving effluent management on dairy farms.

What activities are eligible?
- Funding is available for the installation of waterway fencing, waterway revegetation and associated weed management, provision of alternative stock water, stock crossings and improved effluent management.
- For dairy effluent management, a payment of $1,500 is available towards the cost of an accredited effluent designer preparing a design for an effluent system upgrade. Further funding may be available towards the implementation of effluent system upgrades to the value of $25,000.
Funding is available for:
- waterway fencing;
- alternative stock water;
- stock crossings;
- effluent management; and
- revegetation and associated weed management.
Eligible areas: Meander, North and South Esk, Lake River, Brumbys, Macquarie and kanamaluka/Tamar catchments
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible to apply for a grant you must be a grazier or dairy farmer in the Meander, North and South Esk, Lake River, Brumbys, Macquarie and kanamaluka/Tamar catchments. You must also be an individual or an organisation capable of entering into a legally binding and enforceable agreement with NRM Nort
