The Toyota Foundation has launched the Domestic Grant Program with the theme of “Promoting a self-governing society based on new ideas in the new normal”.
Grant Categories
- Creation of a system and human resource development that contributes to further promoting an autonomous society in Japan
- With the aim of promoting an autonomous society throughout Japan, they support and promote the movement to create a foundation for autonomous society in each region, as well as creating mechanisms and systems that will have an impact on society as a whole, and developing the human resources who will carry them out.
- Building a foundation for promoting local autonomy
- Starting from the “lifestyle” of each individual, they will reexamine local resources and relationships between people, and through repeated dialogue with various stakeholders, foster a system of autonomy, participation, and cooperation within the community to realize the ideal state.

- Subsidy amount: Maximum 15 million yen per item
- Total Grant Amount: Approximately 45 million yen
- For Category 2
- Subsidy amount: Maximum 6 million yen per item
- Total Grant Amount: Approximately 45 million yen

Project Requirements
- Category 1
- An initiative that crosses fields/areas and is based on a collaborative and cooperative system that transcends boundaries such as occupation type, attributes, and physical distance.
- Through research and practice based on a perspective that questions and doubts existing systems and traditional methods, the initiative aims to disseminate and spread throughout Japan.
- Based on the analysis and verification of existing initiatives in specific regions and the creation of a strategy to spread to other regions, the initiative must be put into practice and deployed in two or more new regions during the grant period.
- Category 2
- The project must be an effort that crosses fields/areas and involves a collaborative and cooperative system that transcends boundaries such as occupation, attributes, and physical distance.
- The project must include a perspective of verifying and analyzing “knowledge” that can be disseminated and applied to other regions through practice in the target area and that promotes a transformation of people’s values.
